I love you so much! Anne Rice put such a twist on this fairy tale, that it is hard to look at my nieces Sleeping Beauty dolls. By claiming her if you’re thinking he claims her as his princess and they ride away to the sunset,you are very wrong. This is, from what my boyfriend tells me, a hilarious book to read aloud on a plane if you want to make the other passengers uncomfortable.
I read it so long ago. The sexual situations in this book are anything but consensual. Prism of the Night: I think the possessiveness of the Prince is sort of a dated attitude. Apr 11, Debra rated it liked it. There are so many erotic books to choose from now that there is something for everyone.
She lost most of the background and plot and even though there was a variety of positions and objects — she recycled quite a bit of the sex scenes. And look at this Prince Charming Professor Linda Badley of Middle Tennessee State University wrote in her book Writing Horror and the Body on the trilogy, that rewriting the myth of Sleeping Beauty as sadomasochistic fantasies enabled Anne Rice to explore “liminal areas of experience that could not be articulated in conventional literature, extant pornography, or politically correct discourse”.
This really is the poor man’s Marquis de Sade, because as much as I freaking hate de Sade, he did it first or at least, most famously and he shocked the hell out of everyone.
We know nothing of her character to start with – whether she was modest, chaste, loving, kind, whatever, so it’s hard to see her as a person to begin with since her character is so cardboard. One of my GR friends said she read it and the 2nd book only gets worse–my question is: The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, by A. I wasted a very long time over this books. I do not want to read a book about people being farmed out to rapists.

So, if you’re a woman bored with your life, sick of being a maid, in search of becoming a maneater, this book is definitely not for you. A so-called ‘friend’ with obviously a very questionable taste in books. On PAGE 3 the sex and degradation begins and it continued-page after brutal page.

I felt that ended just the way I wanted. After watching it I was surprised and scared like shit because it’s not how I imagined it would be. This is not that. It doesn’t deal with history, real or fictionalized, and it should never be read as such. I love a good smut novel, and not just those PG Danielle Steel novels either.
Neither of them gave her the critical acclaim or the commercial success of her first novel; the main complaints about The Feast of All Saints were that it was too heavy and dense to read easily,  and most of the reviews for Cry to Heaven were so savagely negative that Rice felt devastated. It’d be a interesting project for someone not me to note exactly how many times Beauty gets spanked in this and the rest of the series!
Some versions of the tale have Beauty raped and pregnant while sleeping, and only waking up after childbirth.
In this castle they spend several years learning to become obedient and submissive sexual property, accepting being spanked and forced to have sex with nobles and slaves of both sexes, being publicly displayed and humiliated, and crawling around on their hands and knees like animals until beautg return to their own lands “being enhanced in wisdom.
I just couldn’t put roauelaure down. She kind of remind me of Judith McNaught novels with added dark side and erotica flavor on it. Lots of people enjoy imagining themselves passive, in the hands of a beautiful lover, male or female, who will force them to enjoy themselves.
